Oregano is often referred to as “wild marjoram” or the “pizza herb” due to it’s prolific growth and use in Italian cooking. Oregano is imported from Greece, Mexico and Turkey. Leaves are a light green when dried. It is one of the ingredients of chili powder and the most essential ingredient in pizza flavoring or in spaghetti sauce. Ideal with fresh or cooked tomatoes, zucchini and also in green beans. Add fresh oregano in the last 10 minutes of cooking for the maximum flavor and nutritional benefits. When using dried oregano it can be added at any time during the cooking.
